Packing for a small-group trip: what actually earns its space

Small-group trips move differently than solo backpacking or an all-inclusive resort stay — you’re on a shared schedule, often with a shared van or minibus, so what you pack affects everyone, not just you.

Pack for the itinerary, not the destination

It’s tempting to pack for "Morocco" or "Patagonia" in the abstract. Pack for your actual itinerary instead — check the day-by-day plan (every Caneva tour page has one) and pack for what you’re actually doing each day, not a generic idea of the place.

A short list that covers most trips

• One layer you can add or remove — mornings and evenings run cooler than midday almost everywhere.
• A day bag small enough to carry on excursions, not just your main bag.
• A copy of your booking confirmation and travel documents, both on your phone and printed.
• A portable charger — group itineraries mean less downtime near outlets than you might expect.

What to leave behind

Anything you’re packing "just in case" for a scenario your itinerary doesn’t actually include. Check the inclusions/exclusions on your tour page before buying specialty gear — it’s often already covered or genuinely unnecessary.
